Chapter Eleven - "It's Okay Steven"

Midday to Dusk Events

“Nathan, Thank you so much for hosting me, I honestly appreciate your hospitable treatment.” My mother lengthened her gratitude towards me and frankly, I was delighted to see that my well disposed presence had altered her mood.

“Mom, I am your son, thus you are more than welcome to pay me a visit at any juncture.” I courteously lengthened my response to her as well.

“I mean it Nathan, thank you very much.” My mother emphasized her gratitude since she could see that I was trying so hard to dismiss myself from the spotlight. Thereafter she gave me a hug and from that gesture, I could tell that she was undoubtedly thankful.

Around 12 p.m. she drove back to Polokwane and fortunately, I was less ill at ease because she was driving during midday and that really put me at ease. When she arrived home, dusk was already at hand. I suppose it took her longer to make arrival because she was driving at a lower speed.

“Hello Steven.” My mother greeted her husband, my father, with a jovial tone.

“Hello Natasha, I am so happy you are back, it was so quiet in here without you, I guess it’s true, absence does make the heart grow fonder.” My father was very polite all of a sudden and that troubled my mother a little, as much as it slightly disturbed me when I called to let him know that mom was okay, and not that it was wrong for my dad to be kind to us but he had been hostile to both my mother and I. Nonetheless my mother apologized for her leave of absence and my father accepted the apology.

“Natasha, I need to tell you something.” Dad expressed to his wife, my mother, that he wanted to disclose something to her, something that had happened while she was away. At hearing those words, my mother shivered a little, for she did not know what to anticipate. Especially with my dad’s conduct as of late. Perhaps she involuntarily thought that my father was going to ask that they go their separate ways. However, that was not the case.

“Okay.” My mother replied to the remark at hand, though she was aggressively trembling.

“Chloe was here, she came here looking for you and I told her where you were. I am sorry Natasha, and at first, I was reluctant to tell her about your whereabouts but she was unwilling to leave and that compelled me to tell her eventually.” Although my mother was filled with rage, she was discreetly at liberty to hear that my father was not asking that they separate. “I know how you feel about her but I had to find a way to chase her away from me, for it would have been a bad depiction for you to find her at your doorstep, and with me but I am sorry Natasha.” At once my father emphasized how sorry he was to disclose my mother’s whereabouts to Chloe Rush.

My mother chuckled a little and not because she was devastated by my father’s doing but rather, she was mad at Chloe. “It’s okay Steven and thank you for letting me know, I appreciate your honesty.”

“Oh, are you not angry at me?” My father was slightly shocked by his wife’s reaction. Nevertheless, my mother was a decent woman, and when dealing with other people, she was not one to make a mountain out of a molehill.

“Steven, I am not mad at you. What's more, you did not invite Chloe over to our place, so why should I be mad.” She giggled after saying those words.

My mother decided to let bygones be bygones, and to achieve that, she chose to embrace every treasure in her proximity, and even though our family was somehow divided but we were all safe and that’s what she chose to delight in.
