Chapter Ten - Unfriendly Deeds
The Next Morning.
The next morning came about and it seemed my mother was at sea, for she could not remember anything regarding the previous night. Furthermore, she was extremely worried that she had spent the night away from home without informing her husband but little did she know that I had already briefed my father on her behalf and I immediately liberated her from discomfort by declaring my father’s awareness of her whereabouts. There-upon she succumbed to tranquility but as she was gradually gaining remembrance of the encounter she had with Chloe Rush, misery infiltrated her uplifted mood and tore her into irreversible pieces. I was honestly hoping that she would be at ease by this time, but it seemed I was biting off more than I could chew.
My mother tried to assemble herself for work but I politely asked her to refrain for a day or two, and surely my father would understand, the kind of state my mother was in wouldn’t enable her to be productive. Although, I must say, my father was a different breed, he did not permit anything or anyone for that matter to prevent him from going to work, he always went against the grain despite difficulties. He toiled as though he was employed by a brutally inconsiderate boss, whereas in actual fact, he and my mother were co-owners of their accounting company and they also employed other accountants who could step in for them in times of need.
My mother listened to my suggestion, she refrained from going to work and she also called my dad to apologize for her abrupt leave of absence and for some odd reason, my dad displayed and practiced understanding beyond what I expected of him and not that I was judging him, I mean I did not have the right to judge anyone but he had responded amiably to both me and mom, and in less than 24 hours. That was bizarre to me.

I poured us some coffee thereafter and when I sat down after giving my mother her cup of coffee, she began to weep. I suppose she could no longer sail under false colors regarding her actual feelings about Chloe Rush. I tried to steadily put her at ease but I was uncertain as to what to say because I was not acquainted with what had really happened between my mom and Chloe.
“Chloe was like a sister to me, one whom I trusted.” She made that remark without keenness. “But I guess jealousy got the best of her, for she connived behind my back.”
“Oh, she did.” I leisurely replied to my mother but I was still at a loss for words, and I didn't want to hinder her from her path of disclosure. “If I may ask, what really happened mom?” I half-heartedly asked her the latter question.
“Nathan, I will just cut to the chase and tell it as it is.” My mother replied to me but not to the actual question at hand.
“Okay” I replied as well.
“Okay Nathan. During college, Chloe was discreetly jealous of my relationship with your father and apparently, she wanted him for herself. To achieve that, she did something that nearly jeopardized my life but unfortunately for her, it did not succeed, yet it surely left me embittered by eternal wounds.” My mother was downhearted as she was relaying the matter to me and I could tell that she was brutally scared by the incident. “Chloe Rush framed me by saying that I was cheating on my exams, the dean took the matter to heart and had me suspended while they were still investigating but fortunately for me, it was discovered that her accusations were dishonest, I was reinstated but I had to repeat the semester since I couldn’t complete other modules, she got away scot-free but I was not upset about that, I was just disappointed by her unfriendly deeds. In a nutshell, that’s what happened, but I forgave her a long time ago. However, I could never trust her again.”
I was really disappointed to hear what Chloe did, I mean that was tremendously bad, but I was also glad to see that her attempt to ruin my mother’s life was futile.
“I am sorry mom, she was really out of line to act in that manner.” I stood up at once to give my mother a hug and I relentlessly assured her that with time, she would be okay. Although the thought of such an event happening to me rained on my parade, I still had to assure her.
